The Local Government Area is predominantly inhabited by the Yorubas of Ijesa Origin as in all the Local Government Areas in Ijesa Land. People from other parts of Yoruba land and even Nigeria on a general note have over the years settled in this Local Government Area. This informs the reason why Ilesa is one of the leading commercial towns in Osun State with many shopping centers and big markets. The famous Atakunmosa market is the oldest and biggest market in Ijesa land. Adeti Market too is another famous and equally aged market, which was in the early 20th Century epitomized by its international peculiarity.
The patronage of Lebanese traders who dealt in hardwares and textiles was unrivalled. The Ishida motor vehicle spare part market is equally a big market within the area is still operative and or great business settlement.
Also, the Ibala Road where ‘Tokunbo’ spare parts is sold is worthy of note. As a result of numerous commercial centers / activities within the town, there is an impressive concentration of modern banks, they are:
WEMA BANK, NATIONAL BANK, UNION BANK, NIGERIAN AGRICULTURAL CO-OPERATIVE RURAL DEVELOPMENT BANK, AND GUARANTEE TRUST BANK.
Today, the hawking of wares by Ijesa “Osomalos” which made their ingenunity in commerce to be positively felt in every part of the world has metamorphosed into gigantic industries and commercial ventures.

Aside these, there are many other small, medium and large scale industries in operation in the Local Government and there availability of land expanse for would-be investors. |
| TOURISM |
| Some of the tourist attractions in the Local Government area are the historical monuments such as Ogedengbe cenotaph erected in memory of the commander-in-Chief of the historical Kiriji war, Chief Ogedengbe; the status depicting Owa Ajibogun the first Owa Obokun of Ijesa land erected by Rotary Club of Ilesa and other collections of war relics including various historical artifacts like the ancient Olofin crown, Ida-Ajasegun (victory sword), shrines of ancient deities and works of ancient sculptors all available at Owa Obokun Adimula’s palace.
The two major mineral resources traceable to the Local Government are Gold and Granite. |
