Some of the tourist attractions in the Local Government area are the historical monuments such as Ogedengbe cenotaph erected in memory of the commander-in-Chief of the historical Kiriji war, Chief Ogedengbe; the status depicting Owa Ajibogun the first Owa Obokun of Ijesa land erected by Rotary Club of Ilesa and other collections of war relics including various historical artifacts like the ancient Olofin crown, Ida-Ajasegun (victory sword), shrines of ancient deities and works of ancient sculptors all available at Owa Obokun Adimula’s palace.
The two major mineral resources traceable to the Local Government are Gold and Granite.
TRADITIONAL RULERS
The most prominent traditional seat in Ijesa land is that of the Owa of Obokun presently occupied by the 30th King, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II LLD (CFR) who was installed in 1982 sequel to the demise of Oba Agunlejika. Some of the traditional rulers who had occupied this exclted seat are as follows:
1. Owa Ajibogun 1150AD –1255AD
2. Owa Obokun Awoka Okile 1260AD – 1358
3. Owa Obokun Obara-bara-lokun 1360-1459
4. Owa Obokun Owari 1466 – 1520
5. Owa Obokun Owaluse 1522 – 1526
6. Obokun Atakunmosa 1526 – 1546
7. Owa Obokun Owewe-niye 1867-1874
8. Owa Obokun ‘Bepo Agunloye bi Oyinbo 1875-1893
9. Owa Obokun Alowolodu 1894-1895
10. Owa Obokun Atayero 1902-1920
11. Owa Obokun Oduyoade Aromolaran I 1920-1942
12. Owa Obokun Agunlejika 1982
13. Owa Obokun Aromolaran II 1982-to date
From the record the period of ascension of these Obas brought tremendous development to Ijesa land in Generals.
Aside Owa of Obokun, there are Other High Chiefs and ‘Loriomos’ all across the Local Government area who are directly responsible to Owa Obokun who is the Chairman of Obas in Ijesa Land. |
